ELECTRIC FISH ROADSHOW

HANDS ON SCIENCE OUTREACH

We offer a dynamic opportunity to connect the super power of weakly electric fish to the awesome power of the human body, while instilling the core value that EVERYONE can be a scientist everyday.

 Participants can:

  • See electric signal output of both fish and their own bodies.

  • Hear a transposition of the electric signal with simple amplifier.

  • Participate in inquiry based learning through interactive lab notebook, becoming  a scientist for a day.

Child is learning about the electric organ discharge of different fish by listening with a small amplifier
Children make observations and compare findings in notebook
Graduate students demonstrate the various electric organ discharges of weakly electric fish to adults and children

INTERACTIVE DEMONSTRATIONS

Participants are able to actively explore, ask questions, and interact with animals and scientists. This actively connects concepts of environment and ecology, animal lifestyle, and human body.

INQUIRY BASED LEARNING

In a group setting, notebooks guide the experience, leaving room for student questions. Thanks to Dr. Katie Willis for notebook design.

GROUPS OR FAIRS

We are able to accommodate both individual groups and come-and-go fair type events.
